PROTEST RALLY AGAINST CURBOROUGH ECO TOWN
Michael Fabricant will be joining protesters against the proposed eco-town at Curborough/Fradley as they march through the centre of Lichfield on Saturday 7th June. The march, organised by FACT – Fradley Against Curborough Town, will begin at 12 noon in Gresley Row at the Three Spires Shopping Centre in Lichfield and terminate outside the Dr Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum. The route taken will be via Three Spires Shopping Centre, Bore Street, Bird Street, Beacon Street, the Cathedral Close and Dam Street, before finally reaching the Market Square.
The marchers will then congregate on the steps of the Birthplace Museum, and it is at this point that Michael Fabricant will address the marchers and passers by.
Michael Fabricant says: "I am delighted to show solidarity with FACT and the marchers protesting against the eco-town which is being imposed on local people by Downing Street regardless of the wishes of local government and local conditions. We do not have the road systems, the hospitals, the schools, or other necessary infrastructure to sustain such a major development which will destroy the very character of Lichfield. And we now learn that the construction will not even be ecologically sound making a mockery of the epithet ‘eco-town’ and the very reason for its construction.
"This development is one too far and must be stopped!"
