PARTY CONFERENCE COMES TO BIRMINGHAM!
Michael Fabricant says: "I am seriously delighted that Birmingham will
host the Annual Conservative Party Conference in October 2008 thrashing
locations like Bournemouth, Brighton, and Blackpool which have always
held it in the past. Way over 12,000 delegates, broadcasters,
exhibiters, and observers attend the Conservative Conference which will
help promote Birmingham and the surrounding area on the international
map as the Conference is televised in locations as far afield as the
United States and Australia.
"As all types of accommodation are needed including B&Bs for many
retired delegates, I anticipate that Lichfield will benefit greatly as
our restaurants and hotels are an attractive alternative to Birmingham’s
inner city. I am praying for no leaves on the line next October as the
cross-city train service will be the logical means of conveying visitors
between Lichfield and Birmingham.
"I shall be speaking to Lichfield’s Tourism chiefs to determine how we
can gain maximum benefit from this move.
"As well as Birmingham, I hope that cities like Manchester will also
host future Conservative Conferences. David Cameron’s fresh approach to
politics means that at long last a major political party has broken the
bi-annual cycle of trips to the seaside in October for the party
faithful. I have been pressing for this for some time. The midlands
are accessible to all and make good sense. I am just amazed it has
taken so long."
