Michael Fabricant met with members of The Rotary Club of Lichfield St
Chad yesterday, 24th June, to see just two of the vehicles which will be
featured in Cars in the Park in Beacon Park Lichfield on the 2nd and 3rd
of July.

Michael says "Ed Doolan and I will be at the event which promises to be
a fantastic day out in support of local charities. And this year
promises to be even larger than 2004, which in itself was the biggest to
date. There are entries from 1903 up to the present day."

Barry Boothman, Secretary of the Rotary Club, says "We have appearing
on Sunday an AEC coach that won coach of the year in 1960. It was also
used as the Aston Villa team coach. For the kids, in addition to Pat
Collins’ Fun Fair, a Punch and Judy show will be attendance on both
days.

"On Sunday there will be a special display with cars from each of the
decades from the 1900’s to the present. Main dealers showing the very
latest in automobile design are also at Cars in the Park. We are also
expecting a larger than ever area with trade stalls selling a wide
variety of products. Musical entertainment will be provided by the
Vivace Septet on Saturday, and the St Johns Ambulance band on Sunday.

"This year Rotary is celebrating it’s 100 anniversary and we ask our
visitors to visit the Rotary Awareness Tent to see what we do with money
raised from CitP and other fund raising activities.

"This year for the first time we are adding a free concert on the
evening of Saturday 2 July in Beacon Park.

"Given by the Rugeley Brass Band the theme is the 60th anniversary of
the end of the war. Local detachments from the Royal British Legion and
the Naval Association will parade their standards before the concert
when a minute’s silence will be observed. Starting at 7.30pm and
ending at about 9.30pm visitors are invited to bring along chairs,
picnics and dress in the manner of the 40’s.

"The concert will be preceded by the Vivace Septet who will be playing
from 6.30 to 7.15. This group is newly formed and is based in Cannock.
The ages of its members rage from 15 to 19. It is good to be able to
allow a stage for new local musical talent. Full catering facilities
will also be available until 9.30pm."
