Michael Fabricant attended last night’s City of Lichfield ‘Mayor and
Sheriff’s 1940’s Charity Dance’ at Whittington Barracks whose future is
currently under review by the Ministry of Defence. Attendees were
invited to wear 1940’s costume. Michael Fabricant wore his Royal
Marines uniform complete with camouflage paint on his face.

The Dinner was followed by dancing with music played by the Band of the
Prince of Wales Division. The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Gwyneth Boyle,
expressed her dismay that Army cuts by the Government will mean that
several army musicians from the Band will be made redundant when it is
merged with another band.

Michael says: "This was an innovative, very different, and fun evening
that raised money for the Lichfield Young Carers Association, The St
Mary’s Centre in Lichfield, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Tamworth
Area Medical Emergency Services. I was glad I was able to support these
charities. I am pleased the Barracks were able to help and hope they
will long remain a part of Lichfield life." The Ministry of Defence
plan to close one of the 5 Army Training Regiment centres in the UK of
which Whittington is one.
