90% OF LICHFIELD PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY COULD SOON HAVE BROADBAND
Broadband could soon be available to around 90% of Michael Fabricant’s
Lichfield Parliamentary constituency if new BT trigger levels are reached.
Michael says: "This is great news. I know of many local firms providing
goods and services worldwide through the use of broadband websites. And
many private users are rapidly discovering the advantages of a broadband
internet connection. Broadband is available either through the local cable
network NTL or from many BT telephone lines if the exchange has been
broadband enabled. BT have set trigger levels and if enough people
register their interest, the exchange will be switched on for broadband"
The latest position in the Lichfield constituency is as follows:-
Alrewas has reached its trigger of 200 and is due to be broadband enabled on
26th November;
Armitage has a trigger of 250 and 143 registrations;
Yoxall has a trigger of 150 and 101 registrations.
Whittington has a trigger of 150 and 57 registrations;
Burntwood reached its trigger and was ADSL enabled on 18th June;
Lichfield City is already enabled to provide ADSL broadband;
BT can provide support to any local people campaigning to bring broadband to
their communities, including leaflets, posters and stickers. More info can
be found at www.bt.com/broadband.
"I hope that people will register their interest in broadband with BT",
Michael Fabricant says. "It is not a binding commitment and by registering,
they can enable others to use the latest computer technology. In the
meantime, I shall be finding out what trigger levels have been set for
Abbots Bromley". Michael is Shadow Trade and Industry Minister with
responsibility, among other things, for e-technology.
