“There is currently a lack of clarity regarding which part of HS2 is being ‘paused’ for at least two years” says Michael Fabricant.  “I am currently in communication with both HS2 and Government ministers to determine whether work north of Birmingham, but still in Phase 1, will be paused or whether work will continue.  So far, I have received no answer.”

HS2 Phase 1 runs from London to an intersection with the West Coast mainline at Handsacre just north of Lichfield; Phase 2a runs from that point to Crewe; and Phase 2b runs from Crewe to Manchester.

“If the work near Lichfield in Phase 1 is to be paused, then access roads which are currently closed will have to be reopened.  In particular, access along the A38 to Lichfield through Streethay is closed off.  This cannot be allowed to continue for an indefinite number of years as it will cause economic damage to the City and considerable and unnecessary inconvenience to my constituents.  Roads need to be reopened and damage to farmland made good.”
