Fly Posting in Lichfield District
A constituent has contacted Michael Fabricant saying “I have taken it upon myself to try to clean up Lichfield by advising the Council of every bit of Fly Postering I come across.
“This has gotten particularly worse recently with many businesses fly postering lamp posts, railings, bridges etc.
“If one business sees another is doing it – and getting away with it – then they think it’s OK to do it themselves too. And the problem only becomes exacerbated. Some fly posters are straight up advertisements for businesses “Johns Blinds”, “Key Escape Rooms”, “Easy Bathrooms”, “Privacy Blinds”
“Others fly posters are for pop up businesses “Maize Maze”.
“Also many of these companies – and they are ALL companies – seem to like to add words like “Lichfield” or “Community” to their banners and posters. I assume this is in the hope of fooling the average person that there is some sort of legitimacy to them being allowed to advertise their businesses in this manner.
“Also these businesses are not stupid, the know themselves that if they put them up they have at least 28 days’ worth of free advertising before they have to remove them.”
Michael Fabricant says “The constituent tells me that the Council say to him they can’t spare resources to remove all of these. I have contacted the Council about this and am awaiting a detailed reply.
“Removing these adverts is not enough. There needs to be enforcement and fines for businesses who deliberately fly post on public property such as lamp posts and traffic railings despoiling the District and potentially distracting motorists. Other councils do this. I hope Lichfield will do this more vigorously too.”
