I have Confidence in the track record of Boris Johnson
In the vote of Confidence Debate in the Government today (18th July), Michael Fabricant says he still has confidence in Boris Johnson. “He got the big calls right” says Michael. “Whether it be Brexit, winning the election, Covid, or Ukraine. I think we have made a huge mistake in making him stand down.”
Michael told the Prime Minister in the House of Commons Chamber: “I personally believe that our party is making the same mistake that the Labour Party made when they knifed Tony Blair.
“But may I ask my Rt Hon Friend, is he aware that the excess death rates in Europe show that thanks to his early intervention with the vaccine, fewer people died in the United Kingdom than the majority of other European countries?
“And thanks to my Rt Hon Friend’s intervention, Kyiv is still a part of Ukraine and not a part of Russia!”
Boris Johnson replied: “I think he is absolutely right in what he says about the record of the NHS, the record of this country in beating back Covid. What a pity it was that the Leader of the Opposition came so many times to the Commons and said that we had the worst record in Europe – he has never taken it back. Perhaps he will do so in the course of the debate to come.”
Michael adds now “Just look at Keir Starmer’s face afterwards. A humourless, unimaginative, dull North London lawyer who would never have had the imagination to intervene on the vaccine programme or Ukraine as Boris has done.”
