Michael offers Lichfield’s HS2 to Scotland
In a debate on the provision of HS2 in Scotland where they want the line more quickly, Michael Fabricant took the opportunity to mention the plight of his constituents at the hands of HS2.
In the House of Commons, Michael said: “With millions of tonnes of soil being moved across Lichfield, with roads being closed and the canal being obstructed in Lichfield due to HS2, perhaps we can help Scotland by giving them our bit of HS2?”
The Minister for Scotland, Iain Stewart, replied: “I know my Honourable Friend is a doughty campaigner against HS2! We have had that debate I’m afraid, but I’m always happy to discuss with him how we can optimise the building work. The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, who is sitting next to me, has heard his representations!
“I am an enormous believer in the potential of high-speed rail links to transform the economic potential of this country.”
