HAMMERWICH TO STAY WITH LICHFIELD CONSTITUENCY
Hammerwich Ward will remain in the Lichfield Parliamentary Constituency after the Government failed to pass the legislation today (29th January) when the Liberal-Democrats decided to vote with Labour.
Michael Fabricant says: “The proposal was for Hammerwich to move to the Tamworth Parliamentary Constituency to top-up Tamworth’s numbers. But the vote today means it will now stay with Lichfield after the next General Election. While I deplore the action of Labour and Liberal-Democrat MPs to gerrymander the vote – some constituencies in Wales will have 40,000 electors while others in England have 100,000 – I am pleased that I will not be losing my Hammerwich friends after all. It is odd. Nick Clegg said in 2010 that the boundary review was ‘established on the simple principle of fairness with all votes being of equal worth’. I am not sure where that puts his principles now.”
