FABRICANT WELCOMES POST OFFICE MOVE IN ABBOTS BROMLEY
Michael Fabricant has welcomed the Post Office’s decision to trial a Post Office local service at The Cash Stores in Lichfield Road, Abbots Bromley – just 300 yards from its former location. "I am relieved this proposal is being taken forward" says Michael. "There was a very real risk that the Post Office would be closed for good following the retirement of the local sub-postmaster. Abbots Bromley villagers would have had to travel to Uttoxeter and back for post office services. This move also strengthens the long-term viability of the local village shop so it has a double benefit to Abbots Bromley."
In a letter to the Abbots Bromley MP, Michael Fabricant, Post Office officials say: "Due to the retirement of the sub-postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, this branch closed on a temporary basis on 19 June 2010. I can assure you that it is our intention to continue to provide a Post Office service to our customers in the local community and we have been exploring a number of options that would enable us to do this. The establishment of a Post Office local service presents the best possible solution to allow us to restore Post Office services in Abbots Bromley.
"Post Office local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services from the premises of an established outlet. The service will operate from a newly formatted open plan counter in The Cash Stores and will offer a range of key Post Office products and services alongside retail transactions. Post Office customers will benefit from the extensive opening hours provided by our operator. including Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning opening, and extended opening times throughout the week."
The Post Office will be open Monday-Friday from 6.30am to 7pm, Saturdays from 8pm to 7pm and Sunday mornings 8am to 1pm.
