MICHAEL MEETS AIR CADETS
Last night, Thursday 17th September, Michael met the officers and cadets
of the Air Training Corps at their HQ in Cherry Orchard in Lichfield.
The 1206 (Mercian) Squadron ATC in Lichfield currently has around 40
Cadets, but are seeking around 15 more together with adult volunteers.
Michael Fabricant says: "From the age of 13 onwards, Cadets have the
opportunity of flying powered aircraft and gliders, shooting, and taking
part in sport and community service. Many have won their Duke of
Edinburgh Awards through ATC membership.
"I very much enjoyed seeing some of the activities of the Cadets whose
ages range from 13 to 20. I had a go on a flight simulator though,
sadly, I failed in my mission to shoot down an enemy aircraft.
Afterwards, we had a general question and answer session with some
probing questions from the Cadets about politics.
"Mostly, I was hugely impressed with the self-discipline of the young
Cadets who looked as if they would grow into being very fine adults.
They meet twice a week in the evenings and I recommend them to any young
people interested in flying and community activity."
Anyone interested in joining should email oc.1206@aircadets.org or
