POST OFFICE PEOPLE POWER
This afternoon (Thursday 13th November) the Government announced that
the contract to run the Post Office Card Account (POCA) would be awarded
to Post Office Ltd. This is a reversal of policy as the Government were
planning to award this to another company, threatening another wave of
Post Office closures.
"All this speculation has been immensely damaging to the moral of
postmasters and mistresses and post office users" says Michael
Fabricant. "I received hundreds of cards from worried constituents in
Lichfield, Burntwood, Yoxall, Alrewas, and Abbots Bromley concerned
about this. It has destabilised the industry.
"But I congratulate everyone who campaigned on this issue. People Power
has won out again.
