COMMENT ON SCHOOL BUS SERVICE FROM ALREWAS TO BARTON UNDER NEEDWOOD
Commenting on Staffordshire County Council’s decision to restore the
school bus service for children in Alrewas attending John Taylor High
School in Barton under Needwood, Michael Fabricant (MP for Lichfield)
says: "People power has won out again against the faceless bureaucrats
in Stafford who made the foolish and dangerous decision to cancel the
bus service and force school children to walk along the busy A38 trunk
road.
"I am delighted that the decision has been reversed and that children’s
lives will now not be put in danger. But I feel sorry for parents who
have been very worried over the last few months over the decision to
cancel the bus. It’s a shame that the ruling was made in the first
place and I hope that there will be an inquest at County Hall into how
and why this decision was initially made. I had warned the County on
several occasions that they have a duty of care to their school children
and that the decision to stop the bus and endanger lives as a
consequence could impose major legal liability on the County, its senior
officers and the responsible councillors – let alone moral
responsibility."
At the next General Election, there will be a Parliamentary Boundary
change and Barton under Needwood will be moved from the Burton to the
Lichfield Parliamentary constituency. Alrewas is already in the
Lichfield Parliamentary Constituency.
