POST OFFICE CLOSURES IN LICHFIELD
The Post Office will announce the closure of two Post Offices in the Lichfield Parliamentary Constituency: St John Street (Chapel Lane) and Whittington Barracks. "This makes a mockery of the consultation period" says Michael Fabricant. "Hundreds of protest letters and my own representations made it clear to the Post Office that the closure of the St John Street Post Office in particular would create real difficulties for elderly and disabled customers who cannot easily make it to the Post Office in Bakers Lane.
"My concern is that this Government tends to announce consultations and then studiously ignores the conclusions. I will continue to fight this matter in Parliament though I fear that this is a done deal. I can well understand the frustration of the scores of people who wrote to me on this matter".
At the beginning of June Michael Fabricant wrote to the Post Office appealing against closure. See:
