LICHFIELD PRIDE OF PLACE ON NEW POSTAGE STAMPS
Lichfield Cathedral will form the centrepiece and be the definitive 1st
class stamp on a new range of British postage stamps to be issued by the
Royal Mail on May 13th. "I am delighted that Lichfield will be promoted
in this way. We have had success with the issue of a 50p Dr Johnson
coin and I continue to lobby the Bank of England for Lichfield to be
featured on a bank note" says Michael Fabricant.
The set of 6 stamps will show the interior of six of the UK’s most
beautiful cathedrals using specially commissioned new photography.
They
are: Lichfield (1st class), Belfast (48p), Gloucester (50p), St David’s
(56p), Westminster (72p), and St Magnus (81p)
Miniature sheet: se-tenant block of 4 showing the interior of St Paul’s
Cathedral, London. In addition, on occasion of the 300th anniversary of
completion of St Paul’s Cathedral there will be a special sheet and 81p
stamp.
"I am keen to promote Lichfield any way I can" adds Michael. "Whether
it be through dressing up as King Herod to promote the Lichfield
Mysteries or by nagging Royal Mail! I think it pays off in the end for
local traders."
