DEBATE ON BRITISH WATERWAYS
The Speaker has granted Michael Fabricant a 90 minute debate on "The
Funding of British Waterways" which will start at 9.30am on Wednesday
25th April.
Michael Fabricant says: "I will be highlighting how sweeping cuts
imposed by DEFRA (the Department for the Environment, Food, and Rural
Affairs) on British Waterways has already resulted in the closure of one
canal and jeopardised the future of many others. I shall emphasise the
benefits to the midlands as a whole of the restoration of the Lichfield
& Hatherton canals and be asking British Waterways to continue their
support of this vital project. In particular, I shall also be asking
the DEFRA Minister to clarify what Government funding will be available
to British Waterways in the coming years."
