CARE HOMES CLOSURE PROTEST MARCH
Michael Fabricant will be joining residents of Lichfield and Burntwood
at 11.30am on Saturday 21st April to protest against Staffordshire
County Council proposals to close care homes and day centres in
Staffordshire. The march will meet at the top of Three Spires Shopping
Centre adjacent to Backcester Lane and then proceed along Three Spires
Shopping Precinct, left into Bore Street, then into the Friary and
finish at the Friary Remains Site for speeches.
After the march a delegation will walk to the Social Services Offices in
Lombard Street to deliver petitions. Michael also presented a petition
to 10 Downing Street about the closure of Oakdene Day Centre in Chase
Terrace, which he recently visited. See news-00692.ihtml and
news-00695.ihtml .
Michael says "I encourage everyone concerned about these closures and
the way the whole matter has been handled to join me in the march and
let Labour County Councillors know the strength of feeling about this.
The announcement of the closures of residential care homes and day
centres by Staffordshire County Council has been handled appallingly.
Many elderly residents are at a loss to know what their future brings."
