VICTORY FOR RETIRED MINERS AFTER LONG CAMPAIGN
Michael Fabricant has expressed his delight at news that retired miners have won a long standing battle with their pension fund. Michael met retired miners from Burntwood and Cannock in his Burntwood constituency back on 30th January 2004 when at first other MPs in the immediate area refused to meet up with them.

Following the meeting, Michael initiated a Parliamentary campaign requesting meetings with ministers, raising Parliamentary Questions on the miners’ pension fund, and forcing an inquiry by the National Audit Office after formally raising the matter with the Public Accounts
Committee. Other local MPs then agreed to meet with the Cannock Chase Retired Miners and Officials Pensions Association and finally were able to meet a junior DTI Minister, Nigel Griffiths.
Michael now says: "It was the persistence of local miners who, despite the odds, have achieved success when at first no-one was prepared to listen to them. I am delighted that their efforts have paid off and this long injustice has been partly rectified. I am glad that my Parliamentary campaign acted as the catalyst for this wonderful victory".
