RUSSIA IN LICHFIELD?
Michael Fabricant has been contacted by a researcher wanting to find out
about the Russian community that apparently existed in Lichfield from
the 1920s until about the 1970s.
The request for help has come from Rosemary Enright
(Rosemaryenright@AOL.com): She says "I am searching for any evidence of
the Russian community which I’m sure existed in Lichfield between the
1920’s and early 1970’s along with a Russian Orthodox Church where the
funeral service of an old school mistress of mine took place.
"The community seems to have disappeared entirely along with the Church.
The Public Library, the Heritage Centre and the Tourist Office in
Lichfield all deny any knowledge of a Russian presence in Lichfield.
I’d be grateful if you could throw any light the matter."
Michael Fabricant says "If anyone does know anything about this unusual
aspect of Lichfield’s fairly recent history, they should contact
Rosemary Enright direct at her email address: Rosemaryenright@AOL.com"
