IDENTITY CARDS
Michael Fabricant supports the introduction of identity cards provided
some technical difficulties can be overcome so that the system works
well in practice. "With the police and the Security Service both saying
that ID cards will help protect the general public against terrorist
attacks, I do not believe it would be right to oppose this protective
measure in principle.
"These cards will also ensure that illegal immigrants and others who are
not entitled to certain state benefits will not have access to them.
Fraud of this nature is costing the British taxpayer millions of pounds"
says Michael Fabricant. "Between now and the cards’ introduction, it
will be necessary to ensure that the biometric information contained on
them works reliably so that automatic card readers do not produce either
false positives or false negatives. Members of Parliament of all
parties will wish to ensure that these cards work effectively in
practice."
