STAFFORDSHIRE SCHOOLS LOSE OUT AGAIN
In answer to a Parliamentary Written Question to Michael Fabricant, Schools Minister David Milliband has revealed to him that
Staffordshire schools are again near the bottom of the league for funding per pupil for 2005-06. Out of 150 local education
authorities, Staffordshire primary schools are 5th from the bottom while Staffordshire secondary schools do a little better at 10th
from the bottom.
"This is another disappointing result particularly given Labour’s pledge back in 1997 that the inequality in school funding would be
eradicated in 12 months. Eight years later, a secondary head in Staffordshire will get £3,021 per pupil compared with £3,736 in
Slough or £5,051 in Tower Hamlets. In a school of 1,100 pupils, that is an annual income difference of £786,500 and £2,233,000 in a
year respectively. This can’t be fair" says Michael Fabricant. "It is revealing that this information only came available when I had
to table a carefully worded Parliamentary written question.
"I will continue to campaign, as I have done since I was elected for direct funding from London on an equal per child basis. That is
the only logical way forward."
The complete table for primary and secondary school funding for 2005-06 follows.
