GUARDED WELCOME FOR M6 TOLL CHANGES
Michael Fabricant has given a cautious welcome to M6 Toll charge changes
which will take place in August when the introductory discounted charges
end. "Before the toll road opened, I argued that local users should be
entitled to a discount given the long disruption they had to suffer while
the road was being built" says Michael Fabricant.
"I welcome the fact that this has been recognised by Midland Expressway.
Cars exiting the M6 Toll motorway at toll plaza 4,5, and 6 for Lichfield and
Burntwood will still only have to pay the introductory discount charge of £2
while those using the road for its full length will see their fares rise to
£3. However, I understand that drivers joining the motorway at plazas 4,5,
and 6 will still have to pay £3 because of the design of the motorway toll
plazas which do not recognise where a driver joins the motorway. So south
and northbound road users joining halfway along the motorway from Lichfield
and Burntwood will get no discount. That is most unfortunate".
