THREE SCHOOL CHILDREN FROM LICHFIELD AND BURNTWOOD TO VISIT 10 DOWNING STREET
Following the initiative started by Norma Major when she was wife of
Prime Minister John Major, Cherie Booth QC (wife of Tony Blair) will
entertain three lucky students from Lichfield and Burntwood on March
10th in Number 10 Downing Street. As well as meeting Cherie and Michael
Fabricant, there will be a tour of Number 10 and possibly even a chance
to say ‘hello’ to the Prime Minister if he is available. Each child
will be accompanied by a parent, teacher, or guardian. Prior to the
visit to Downing Street, there will also be the opportunity to visit
Michael at the House of Commons where he will give them a tour of
Parliament.
Three local schools were chosen at random and each school has nominated
who should join the visit. The three chosen are:-
Alex Bastin, aged 10, from St Michael’s School, Lichfield
Matthew Hoccom, aged 15, from Chase Terrace Technical College, Burntwood
Mark Smith, aged 12, from Lichfield Cathedral School.
"This will be an enjoyable and stimulating occasion and an opportunity
to see the heart of Government at Number Ten Downing Street", says
Michael Fabricant. "As we approach a general election, I hope the three
students will find it an exciting visit and perhaps see that MPs of all
parties really do work together – whatever might be the impression
from seeing Prime Minister’s Question time on TV."
