CULTURE SECRETARY TO VISIT LICHFIELD
The Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, Tessa Jowell MP, will be
visiting Lichfield on Tuesday 1st July following her promise to do so when
Michael Fabricant invited her during a Committee hearing when she was a
witness some months back. She will be visiting the new Lichfield Garrick
and the Cathedral in the afternoon. .
"I am delighted that Tessa will be visiting Lichfield. Such visits, whether
it be her or the visit of 25 Commonwealth MPs back in March, help raise the
profile of our City. This can only lead to increased tourism and business
for local traders. She has kept her word when she told me that she is keen
to see what Lichfield has to offer." adds Michael.
Unfortunately, Michael Fabricant won’t be present that day: "I have to be
down in Westminster on Tuesday as, among other things, the very Committee
at which I invited her to visit Lichfield is sitting and taking evidence
from Scotland Yard detectives regarding the theft and sale of cultural
objects from museums from around the world including thefts from the museum
in Baghdad. I am sure I can leave her in Lichfield in capable hands!" he
says.
